Drupalcon Portland 2024 Concludes with Key Insights and New Initiatives

Drupalcon Portland 2024 has concluded successfully, marking another milestone for the community with insightful events and initiatives. The four-day gathering saw the Drupal founder and project lead, Dries Buytaert, delivering his traditional keynote, dubbed the Driesnote, which introduced the "Drupal Starshot" initiative to propel the community forward. Read more about this new initiative here. Additionally, the event celebrated community achievements by presenting the Aaron Winborn Award to Michael Anello, recognizing his contributions.

This year, DrupalCon Portland launched a supportive initiative to assist individuals with hidden disabilities. The effort was initiated by a proposal from Paul Johnson, Director at CTI Digital, and successfully implemented under the guidance of Meghan Harrell, the Director of Events. The conference also featured various sessions focusing on the advancement of Drupal and its ecosystem. Highlights included discussions on the Project Browser initiative, led by Leslie Glynn and Chris Wells, which aims to integrate the Project Browser as an experimental core module. Another significant session, "So I logged in, now what? The Dashboard initiative welcomes you," presented by Christian López Espínola and Pablo López, outlined user engagement strategies post-login. Outside the main conference, the specialized LagoonCon Portland 2024 also took place, featuring key industry figures like Toby Bellwood and Christoph Weber, who shared their insights on developing and managing Drupal projects. 

The event was rich with thematic summits and training sessions tailored to specific sectors and interests. These included the Community, Higher Ed, Healthcare, Nonprofit, and Government Summits, each designed to address the unique challenges and opportunities within those fields. The conference concluded with hands-on training sessions provided by DrupalEasy, Evolving Web, and Debug Academy, ensuring participants left with enhanced skills and a deeper understanding of Drupal's capabilities. The successful completion of Drupalcon Portland 2024 underscored its role as a pivotal platform for knowledge exchange and community strengthening within the Drupal ecosystem.

Two significant announcements were made regarding future events: DrupalCon North America 2025 is scheduled to be held in Atlanta, Georgia, from March 24 to March 27, 2025, and DrupalCon Asia 2024 is set to take place in Singapore from November 18 to November 21, 2024. These events mark important dates for the Drupal community, continuing its tradition of fostering growth and collaboration across the globe.
