Drupal 7 EoL Extended by 14 Months; Announcement at DrupalCon Pittsburgh

Drupal 7 to receive official support till January 05, 2025

On the first day of DrupalCon, an exciting Security Team Panel - D7 End of Life Q&A took place. At this panel, the Drupal Security team addressed one of the community's fundamental questions: What is the future of Drupal 7 support? Participants had the opportunity to join them and ask their questions about Drupal 7's end of life.

Attendees gathered for the Security Team Panel focused on Drupal 7's end-of-life support. With the official End of Life date set for January 05, 2025, the panel served as an important forum for the community to gain insights and clarification regarding the future of Drupal 7.

Earlier, the EoL was set for November 01, 2023. With the new decision, the lifespan for official support of Drupal 7 increased for 14 more months. By then, the new Retrofit plugin that helps run legacy Drupal 7 code in newer Drupal installations will mature enough to ward off any apprehensions web admins pose.

The panel discussion shed light on the path forward for Drupal 7 users and highlighted the importance of planning for the transition to newer versions such as Drupal 9 or Drupal 10. With Drupal 7's impressive 14-year lifespan, the community came together to celebrate the achievements and success of the software while looking ahead to embrace the advancements and enhanced features of the latest Drupal versions.
