Released on September 15, 2023, the frontend editing module, version 1.2.0, introduces significant enhancements to its functionality. Developed by Artem Dmitriiev and a dedicated team of contributors with 1xINTERNET, this update brings about changes that warrant careful consideration, particularly for those operating in production environments. Users are advised to evaluate the new features in lower environments first and ensure that their theme templates are prepared for the update. It's worth noting that templates rendering fields separately may require adjustments to prevent the disappearance of frontend editing action icons.

One notable addition in this release is the introduction of new settings accessible via /admin/config/frontend-editing/entity-bundle-restrictions, allowing for more fine-grained control over which entities can be managed using frontend editing. Additionally, users can now seamlessly view updated content without needing a page reload, a departure from the previous behaviour. This feature can be enabled or disabled, with the default setting being enabled, on the /admin/config/frontend-editing/ui-settings page. Users also have the option to exclude specific fields to avoid HTML markup issues.

The update addresses several bugs, including one related to sidebar behaviour after saving entities and another concerning errors when saving content with a media reference field. It also resolves problems encountered when using the Gin theme. Furthermore, the release incorporates UI improvements and changes, such as removing the toggle button in the Gin sidebar, adjusting the user interface when hovering over Frontend Editing links, and refinements in the appearance of Frontend Editing links.
