Cristina Chumillas, a senior Front-end Developer at Lullabot, takes the spotlight in James Shields' Drupal Advent Calendar 2023, unveiling the Admin Navigation—a replacement for Drupal's default Toolbar. This visionary initiative reimagines the top toolbar, shifting it to a left vertical sidebar following extensive testing and iteration. Recognizing that over 70% of Drupal sites customize the toolbar, this evolution aims to create a more adaptable and user-friendly core navigation system.

The new design introduces a top bar housing primary page actions, optimizing vertical space by relocating elements like breadcrumbs and the "Back to site" link. With a focus on user research, community engagement, and usability tests, the initiative refines design and functionality.

An alpha version release is imminent, inviting community feedback and aiming for integration into Drupal 10.3 as an experimental module. Active participation is encouraged via the #admin-ui Slack channel for ongoing improvements and testing. For more details, explore the blog post.
