DrupalCon Barcelona 2024 to Enhance Sustainability Efforts

DrupalCon Europe 2024 is set to take place in Barcelona from September 24 to 27, with organizers aiming to surpass the success of last year's event in Lille. Early Bird tickets are currently available for those looking to secure their spot at this prominent gathering of the Drupal community. Building on the sustainability efforts initiated at DrupalCon Lille 2023, the organizers plan to continue their commitment to reducing the event's environmental impact.

At DrupalCon Lille 2023, several key sustainability initiatives were implemented in collaboration with Terra Verde, a sustainability consultancy agency. The event achieved a total carbon footprint of 1,100 tonnes of CO2e, setting a benchmark for future editions. The conference also managed to hold a zero-food waste event, with food donations going to the Red Cross. The Lille Convention Center also used 100% renewable energy, and 38% of the suppliers met sustainability criteria.

Other notable efforts included collecting and donating T-shirts and masks, raising over 1,250 EUR through a mascot auction for charity, and introducing a wellness area for attendees.
